To the Editor:

Riggs-Henson has courage

I support Pat Riggs-Henson for Lane County commissioner. Pat has been a friend for at least 30 years. We both worked as employment specialists for the Workforce Partnership in the 1980s and ’90s. She always has shown compassion to those least among us. She is dedicated to supporting families through employment, education and equal opportunity. Pat has helped tens of thousands of Lane County residents find employment over the years.

Pat has a sensitivity about what it takes to support families facing challenges. She has worked with low-income families, single-parent families, seniors, and at-risk youth.

She is particularly sensitive to the needs of women, including their personal safety and balancing family and work. She would bring this background to county government. The Lane County Board of Commissioners would benefit from some female membership. Pat has courage and a strong personality that will serve her well as a commissioner.

She is a strong supporter of working families and understands that economic development and labor go hand in hand for a healthy community. Pat has demonstrated leadership skills in many leadership roles in serving Lane County families. Pat always has let honesty, integrity, and justice guide her judgment. She has been a longtime resident of Springfield and will represent her constituents well on the county board.
